10/28/2007 - Uniondale, NY (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Rod Brind'Amour tallied a hat trick and added an assist, as the Carolina Hurricanes pummeled the New York Islanders, 8-3, at Nassau Coliseum.
Ray Whitney added two goals and an assist, and Justin Williams also scored twice for the Hurricanes, who have won three of four and recovered from Friday's 7-4 home loss to Montreal.
Erik Cole and Matt Cullen each had three assists, and John Grahame had 28 saves for Carolina to post his first win of the season.
Rick DiPietro allowed six goals on 14 shots, and was pulled in favor of Wade Dubielewicz, who let in two more goals on 12 shots. Ruslan Fedotenko, Marc- Andre Bergeron, and Mike Sillinger scored for the Islanders, who had won two straight entering the game.
It took the Hurricanes a little less than three minutes to take the lead in the first period. Jeff Hamilton passed from the left circle to Brind'Amour, who one-timed a shot past DiPietro.
Whitney scored at 9:25 of the first period to double the Carolina lead, and then Brind'Amour struck again to make it 3-0. This time, parked in front of the right post, Brind'Amour slammed in the rebound of a Dennis Seidenberg shot with 5:48 left in the first.
Whitney's second tally of the game, just 1:17 into the second period, gave the Hurricanes a 4-0 lead.
Fedotenko finally stemmed the onslaught a little more than a minute later, as his third of the season brought the Islanders within three goals. The break was short-lived, though, as Williams scored at 4:36, and Carolina's lead was back to 5-1.
Eric Staal tallied his ninth goal of the season at 7:48 of the second period, pushing the Carolina lead to 6-1. Bergeron scored on the power play with 9:33 left to cut the Hurricanes lead to 6-2.
Brind'Amour clinched the hat trick with a power-play score 3:23 into the final period, making it a 7-2 game for the vistors. Williams' second goal, just 21 seconds later, gave Carolina a six-goal pad.
Sillinger's first goal of the season in the waning seconds of regulation made it an 8-3.
Game Notes

Will Ohio State continue to run the table in College Football betting odds?
MySportsbook.com favors Buckeyes, Fighting Irish and Golden Bears in this weekend's big games.
NEW YORK, NY, Sept. 21 - My Sportsbook NCAA football fans: things are beginning to get really interesting on college football's national stage. Following last weekend's "Separation Saturday", which included five teams ranked in the top 15 dropping games, the BCS Championship picture is beginning to take shape - with Ohio State leading the charge. And, according to odds makers at MySportsbook.com, the number-one-ranked Buckeyes will continue their winning ways this weekend.
Revenge will be the name of the game in Columbus this Saturday, as Ohio State looks to even the score following last season's loss to Joe Paterno's Nittany Lions. Although Penn State are listed as 16.5 point underdogs, they are 11-10 all-time versus the Buckeyes. Paterno and the Lions, however, will have to shut down Heisman Trophy favorite Troy Smith who has thrown for 769 yards and seven touchdowns this season.
Speaking of revenge, Notre Dame will be out for some against Michigan State, following last year's 44 - 41 overtime loss to the Spartans in South Bend. The thirteenth-ranked Irish, listed as a 3-point favorite, will also be looking to avenge last Saturday's thrashing from the Michigan Wolverines. The Spartans, meanwhile, have won seven of the last nine match-ups against Notre Dame and are coming off an impressive 38-23 victory over Pittsburgh.
Out west, 22nd-ranked Arizona State will be battling for their first victory over 21st-ranked California since 2000. Although the Golden Bears are listed as 7.5-point favorites, the Sun Devils are 3-0, lead the nation in sacks with 18 and possess the Pac-10's leading passer in sophomore quarterback Rudy Carpenter.

Super Bowl XLIII is now set, the Arizona Cardinals and the Pittsburgh Steelers will meet each other on February 1st in Tampa's Raymond James Stadium to battle it out for the coveted Lombardi Trophy. The game kicks off at 6:00pm ET on NBC with announcers Al Michaels and John Madden covering the on-field action. Super Bowl XLIII betting odds at online bookmaker MySportsbook.com have the Steelers listed as an early -6.5 against the spread favorite.Super Bowl XLIII Betting Odds
Pittsburgh earned their passage to the big game by beating their division rival, the Baltimore Ravens, 23-14 in yesterday's AFC Championship Game. The Steelers jumped on Baltimore early, building a 13-0 first half lead, and never let up on their way to a fairly easy win. Although the Ravens did close to within two points in the fourth quarter, it never appeared as if they had enough offense to pull off the upset.
The Steelers dominating defense held Baltimore to a total of 198 yards while allowing them to convert just three third downs in 13 attempts. Pittsburgh also forced quarterback Joe Flacco into three interceptions, one of which safety Troy Polamalu returned fourty yards for a touchdown.
The Cardinals, by far the playoff team with the longest odds to reach Super Bowl XLIII, did so yesterday with a 32-25 upset of the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship. Arizona charged out of the gates and built a 24-6 halftime lead that had the Eagles venerable defense reeling. Quarterback Kurt Warner and wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald did most of the damage, connecting on three first half touchdowns.
Arizona, however, could not sustain their momentum and the Eagles took a 25-24 with 10:45 left to play in the fourth. The Cardinals, with the franchise's first Super Bowl appearance hanging in the balance, mounted a fourteen play, 72 yard touchdown drive that consumed 7:52 off the clock. Warner hit running back Tim Hightower on a short screen for the go-ahead, game clinching score that will forever live in Cardinal infamy.
MySportsbook.com's Super Bowl XLIII Betting Odds:
Pittsburgh Steelers -6.5 (-110), Over 46.5 (-110), -260 (Money line)
Arizona Cardinals +6.5 (-110), Under 46.5 (-110), +220 (Money line)
Matt Foust won both of his conference championship plays yesterday and he is ready to serve up plenty of Super Bowl action. Each individual play costs $15.00, however, MySportsbook.com recommends purchasing Matt's NFL Playoff Package which includes all of Matt's Super Bowl props and picks from just $45.00.
